  The APPI are pleased to announce the official return of courses to Melbourne Australia as of July this year.  Due to popular demand the APPI are delighted to be running both Matwork and CPD courses at Corpilates studio centrally located in High St Prahran. 
 
We look forward to providing continued education and training to those that have previously started their training with the Institute and those that are yet to embark.
 
Matwork Certification Series 
 (10% Discount when booking the entire matwork series)
 
Matwork Level 1 $412  (£250) 
Matwork Level 1 is the first in the series for the matwork certification,  it is also the Ab PREP  2foundation course for all APPI  teaching courses. This course introduces the pilates technique, relevant research, beginner level exercises and contra-indicated exercises. Sixteen movements for training lumbo-pelvic, scapulo-thoracic and cervical stabilisation are learnt through observation, self-participation and practice teaching. Discussions of the clinical application of the pilates movements will occur at the time of their teaching to provide participants with the understanding to be able to teach these exercises to patients and clients after the course.

Matwork Level 2 $412 (£250)
Matwork Level shoulder bridge2-Class Instructor is the next step in completing the matwork certification. Pilates classes are excellent for clients once they become familiar with the Pilates principles. Participants learn to teach Modified Pilates to small groups through observation, self-practice and guided feedback. There is a practical examination at the end of day two of this course to assess the participant`s ability to teach a small Modified Pilates class.

Matwork Level 3 $412 (£250)
side bend elisa Matwork Level 3- Intermediate/Advanced is the final course in the Matwork certification series. This course builds upon the movements, understanding, cueing skills and exercise selection framework of Matwork Level 1 & Level 2. 30 movements for training lumbo-pelvic, scapulo-thoracic, cervical stabilisation, spinal mobilisation and strengthening of the global muscular system are learnt through self-participation, practice teaching and observation.

CPD Courses

Ante & Post Natal Pilates $412 (£250)
This course is designed specifically for participants who wish to learn more about the application of Pilates in Pregnancy and the post natal setting. Lectures on the physiological and biomechanical changes that occur during pregnancy, the postural changes and considerations, SPD, labour, post natal recovery and precautions and contra-indications to exercise in pregnancy will be presented.

PIlates & the Ball $214 (£130)
Pilates & the Ball has been designed to apply the modified pilates matwork exercises to the exercise ball. Swiss balls provide sensory motor challenges in multidirectional planes of movement and enhance balance reactions, proprioception, muscle re-education and muscular flexibility.

Pilates & the Theraband $214 (£130)
Pilates & the Theraband is a one day course utilising the theraband to progress the modified pilates matwork repertoire. Participants are taught to use theraband to support limbs to reduce load on the spine and retrain correct muscle balance between the abdominal muscles.

APPI Presenters

Sophie CoSophie Ferrisntreras
Sophie graduated as a Physiotherapist at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Austr
alia in 1999. Sophie has had vast experience working in both the public and private sector, in general musculoskeletal outapatients as well as specific Women`s Health positions. Sophies interest in exercise therapy led her to purse Pilates training. Sophie has trained both in Melbourne and London and is a APPI Master Trainer. Sophie has worked at APPI Clinics, Pilates Art Physiotherapy in London, focussing on specific Pilates for pregnant and post natal women, as well as general pilates for rehabilitation including working with professional dancers from the English National Ballet. Sophie has been an APPI presenter since 2007 and has presented course throughout the UK, Europe and Brazil.

John ContrerasJohn Contreras
John has always had an interest in high level rehabilitation and exercise therap
y. So after graduating from the School of Physiotherapy at The University of Melbourne in 2001, John continued his studies in muscle physiology to complete his Bachelor of Science the following year. Being a registered Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer both in Australia and the UK, he became Master Trainer at Holmes Place Kensington and the APPI.  John previously managed APPI Clinic, Pilates Art Physiotherapy in Wimbledon London and has been presenting for the APPI since 2006
